This Amish Bakery Inside An Old Barn Has People Driving Hours For Fall Pies
I have learned that stopping at a country bakery “just to look” is a very expensive form of self-deception. That became obvious on a gravel road in rural Iowa, where an old barn packed with fall pies, glazed twists, fresh bread, and country-store finds quickly ruined my plan to buy only one thing.

Ode to Fairfield Musicians: Diverse Talents, from Electronic to Alternative
I was reflecting recently on the original music created and performed in Fairfield during the era 2011–2021, and I want to honor the artists who blessed us with their talents. This playlist reveals some of my favorite tracks from their CDs, expressing a wide range of genres: folk, alternative, Americana, indie, rock, pop, singer-songwriter, electronic, and jazz. As I couldn’t include everyone here, I hope to develop another list in the future.

An Iowa Small-Town Bakery Stop With Fall Treats Worth Every Mile
I planned to grab one pastry and be back on the road. Then I saw the case, smelled the almond filling, and immediately stopped pretending I had that kind of self-control. This small-town Iowa bakery has been tempting people for generations. Dutch letters, windmill cookies, apple pastries, breads, and cream-filled treats make choosing just one thing almost impossible.

This Massive Iowa Country Store Is Basically A Rural Costco With Fresh Groceries
I knew this was more than a normal grocery run when my cart held cheese, bulk spices, quilting fabric, and half a pantry. Suddenly, the trunk felt very small. This massive country market in southern Iowa sells far more than groceries. You will find bulk foods, deli meats, baking supplies, candy, clothing, kitchen gear, fabric, and plenty of unexpected finds.

This Small-Town Oskaloosa Cafe Serves The Homestyle Iowa Breakfast Locals And Passing-Through Travelers Both Swear By
Some of the best meals in Iowa are hiding in plain sight, tucked into a row of storefronts where trucks slow down and locals wave to each other by name.
