Family connections part of Lake baseball's championship game run
AKRON — In his third year as Lake's baseball coach, Casey Witt is one of several people in the program who have generational connections to the team and the school. Witt is a 2011 graduate of the Wood County school and a former three-year starter (second base/shortstop) for the Flyers under longtime and highly regarded former head baseball coach Greg Wilker, who posted a 644-351 overall record from 1985 to 2021. Wilker’s win total ranks 19th all-time among Ohio prep baseball coaches. “I'm very proud of Casey, Brandon Maze and Mike Kohlhofer, all former players that are coaching the Flyers,” Wilker said. “They all have helped build and maintain the proud tradition of Lake baseball.
Ayersville Athletic Boosters Receive Two Grants
The Ayersville Athletic Boosters recently received a grant from the Defiance Area Foundation Community Fund, during the grant cycle ending in March, for $10,000! This money will be used for improvements to the baseball and softball facilities at Ayersville Local Schools. Tiger show at Whitehouse Cherry Fest canceled after public opposition
TOLEDO, Ohio (WTVG) - The main attraction for the Whitehouse Cherry Festival has been canceled after some voiced concerns about the act’s practices. The Anthony Wayne Regional Chamber of Commerce with the Chamber Partnership decided to cancel the Brunon Blaszak’s Royal Bengal Tiger Show for the 2024 Cherry Fest happening this weekend, the chamber announced Thursday.
Drive-in celebrates anniversary of 'Munsters' with celebrity appearance
LIBERTY CENTER, Ohio — The Field of Dreams Drive-In Theater near Liberty Center is having a special showing of the comedy classic Munster, Go Home on the night of June 12 to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the zany 1960s television series The Munsters. The television show, a comedy about a family of benign monsters living in suburban America, aired on CBS for only two seasons but had 70 episodes produced. It has lived on for subsequent generations through syndicated reruns and DVD sales. Butch Patrick, a child star who played youngster Eddie Munster, will appear in person at the drive-in that night. He told The Blade in an interview that drive-ins have always been near and dear to his heart. He said he became a fan of them during their heyday when he traveled across rural America with his grandmother, an antique collector.
North Western Electric Cooperative Experiencing Outage Impacting Entire System
According to a press release from the North Western Electric Cooperative most of their entire system is currently experiencing an outage. “Our crews, as well as our President/CEO, are all out driving the lines, looking for potential causes. As soon as we have any further information, we will update everyone”, the release stated.

Amazon set to build 2nd warehouse in northern Wood County
Amazon will build a second warehouse facility in northern Wood County. Perrysburg Township trustees approved a 10-year, 100-percent tax abatement agreement for the $75 million warehouse project on Wednesday. A 600,000-square-foot warehouse will be built on 162 acres at 9240 Fremont Pike. The location is on the north side of Fremont Pike, also known as U.S. 20/23, between the shopping center with Target and Home Depot to the west and the township offices to the east on Lime City Road. The warehouse project is expected to create 500 jobs.
Kitchen named second team WBL
OTTAWA — Ottawa-Glandorf had a pair of softball players receive honors from the Western Buckeye League coaches recently. Addie Kitchen was named to the WBL second team by the coaches and Hailey Leopold was named to the Honorable Mention list.
