High Points of the Valley
* The Belpre Area Chamber of Commerce celebrated with yet another successful annual dinner last week -- this time with the theme being "Survivor." As attendees made connections, learned from panelists ... perhaps got ejected from their islands ... and more, it was clear the chamber board and Executive Director Karen Waller understood how to make the event just another way in which the chamber fulfills its mission. "It's designed to share ideas, to get together socially, give us a chance to make some awards and review the year," Waller said. But, "We try to make it fun. We try to make a combination of fun and some business content." The event WAS fun -- even if the News and Sentinel's table maintains it was cheated in the puzzle race -- as well as educational and a wonderful opportunity to trade ideas. Congratulations to everyone involved on putting together yet another fantastic event.

Logan celebrates streetscape dedication at Worthington Park
LOGAN — The city of Logan formally commemorated its new streetscape project with speeches from Mayor Greg Fraunfelter, Logan Police Chief Jerry Mellinger and Ohio Department of Development Director Lydia Mihalik, as well as a rendition of “Taps” on Wednesday at the newly refurbished Worthington Park. Fraunfelter explained that the project was meant to revitalize the downtown area and improve the park, making the wartime memorials more visible and allowing for greater commemoration of the area’s history. “This wasn’t about me, this wasn’t about senior citizens, this was about the city of Logan,” Fraunfelter said. “And one of the things, being a teacher, is that we worry about the future all the time. I haven’t been a teacher since 2010. I still worry about the future. So these are the things that drove me to get all this done.” Worthington Park is home to Logan’s wartime memorials. The park’s biggest memorial sits at the center of the park, a statue honoring Hocking County’s “Boys in Blue” from the Civil War. Behind the statue sits two stone walls, listing the names of the area’s fallen soldiers. With a total of 125 names from seven wars, the memorial walls are engraved with
