Floodwaters rise quickly, forcing water rescues Saturday
WAVERLY, Ohio — At 7:56 p.m., Saturday, the Waverly Fire Department was dispatched to the 100 block of Woodland Park Road for a water rescue of occupants trapped in their home by floodwaters. The Waverly Water Rescue Team mobilized and, upon approaching the area, found several feet of fast-moving water covering U.S. 23. The current was driven by an overflowing creek, preventing teams from safely entering the water to reach the original address. A secondary rescue attempt was then made at a residence in the 15000 block of U.S. 23. Two divers launched a small rescue boat, but the current swept them off course before they could reach the house. The boat struck a tree and the divers went overboard. Ground personnel quickly threw ropes and successfully rescued both divers without injuries. The boat was lost in the current and could not be recovered at that time. Piketon Seal Township Volunteer Fire Department was requested for water-rescue mutual aid and arrived with a hovercraft. Crews reached the U.S. 23 residence and found two occupants and a cat inside. Floodwater was in the home, and the structure had shifted off its foundation. Because the water was receding rapidly at the time,

Crooksville gets a bit more flooding
CROOKSVILLE - After being hit with major flooding last month, the Crooksville area looked to be at risk of seeing a replay of that experience after heavy rains began falling the night of Wednesday, Sept. 9. Fortunately, the effects of the downpour were milder the second time around. “It was still pretty bad, but we did not have any water rescues,” reported Crooksville Fire-EMS Chief Dyrall Newlon on Thursday. “Luckily, everything that was flooded and had already been flooded pretty much was cleared out… A lot of the houses, the water didn't get up near as high (as in the first round of flooding). But a lot of the houses that were affected before were the same ones that were affected through this one.” Newlon said the rains started around 11 p.m. on Wednesday night, and had stopped by around 1:30 a.m. the next morning. “Everything had receded by 2 o'clock in the morning,” he said. “And about 6:30 this morning, I got a phone call about water going across Industrial Drive.” No evacuations were needed, Newlon said. McConnelsville, OH- Another round of heavy rain caused more flash flooding overnight in Morgan County. A modular home park in McConnelsville was hit by rising water. Kristy Taylor captured video around 12:18 this morning as flooding moved through the modular home park. Heavy rainfall caused a nearby creek that runs alongside the park to overflow, sending water into the area. The intense flooding caused damage to residents’ properties.
