When Hoosier students return to school for the fall semester, cellphones will not be permitted in the classroom thanks to a new state law that went into effect July 1. In Carmel Clay Schools, not much is expected to change, according to Superintendent Michael Beresford, because the district already bans cellphones during class.

Martin University reentry job fair offers second chance at life
Anthony Vaughn is in construction school and hoping to get a job with the trade unions or in a warehouse. At a July 25 job fair at Martin University, he was able to connect with employers in those industries, including Volumod, a modular construction company on the far east side. Vaughn, 29, is hopeful he’s on track to land one of those jobs after being rejected by a number of employers in the roughly three months since he got out of prison.
As Indianapolis Public Schools classes resume, district wants to hire, retain more teachers
INDIANAPOLIS — IPS students head back to school next week. The Department of Education lists more than 1,900 open teaching positions across Indiana. Christina Aden Hammer, chief human resources officer for IPS, said the district has put in a lot of work to retain their teachers. She said they've seen a decrease in resignations from this time last year and have an 89% staff retention rate.
