First-time homebuyers remain scarce, but a record share of them pay all cash

The share of first-time homebuyers remains at a near-record low of 22% as a housing shortage and high prices sideline many, according to a new report by the National Association of Realtors. But those who are managing to buy are older and wealthier than in the past, and 1 in 10 paid all cash, a record high since such data was collected starting in 2003.

Harder reelected to St. Louis County Council seat

Republican incumbent Mark Harder has defeated Democratic challenger John Kiehne to keep his seat on the St. Louis County Council. According to complete, but unofficial results reported by the St. Louis County Board of Elections, Harder received 33,590 votes, or 51.37 percent of the vote, to Kiehne’s 31,798 votes, or 48.63 percent of the vote.

Senate Square auction gets cancelled, again

Two properties whose auctions were rescheduled to take place yesterday will go unsold, at least for now: the embattled Senate Square apartments in Benton Park, and the tornado-stricken Delmar Savoy apartment building at Delmar and Union Boulevards. The two properties have the same owner, David Shemano (identified in court documents as Pinchos D. Shemano), and are both now in receivership after missed payments to their lender.
