Time is running out to nominate someone for the 2026 Citizen of the Year, and community nonprofit leaders have a special reason to take part. The award recognizes a neighbor, volunteer, mentor or community champion whose good work deserves attention. Nonprofit leaders see that work firsthand. They know who welcomes new families, organizes donations, lends a hand at events or quietly takes on the tasks that keep an organization running. Those volunteers may never ask for recognition. But the Citizen of the Year nomination is a chance to tell their story and thank them for the time and care they give. A nomination can help the community see how one person’s service strengthens an organization and supports the people it serves. The nominee should improve the community, give without seeking recognition and live in Midland or Gladwin counties, Auburn or Freeland. The deadline to submit a nomination is Nov. 20. Nominations can be completed online at bit.ly/4iaWPo4 or mailed to the Midland Daily News, attention: Citizen of the Year Nomination, 219 E. Main St., Midland, MI 48640. The newspaper’s printed nomination form on page B7 may also be completed and mailed or delivered to that address. Nonprofit staff and board
