Many former prison inmates find it difficult to locate a landlord who will rent them a place to live. Johnell Allen-Bey is the Flint regional coordinator for Nation Outside. It's a national advocacy group for the formerly incarcerated. He says many former inmates are forced to live with family or couch surf with friends.
Burton man, 53, killed in Holly Township motorcycle crash
HOLLY TOWNSHIP, Mich. (CBS DETROIT) - Police are investigating after a 53-year-old man was killed in a motorcycle crash involving a pickup truck Monday morning in Holly Township.At about 9:50 a.m., the Detroit Regional Communication Center received calls about a crash in the area of Holly and Belford roads, according to Michigan State Police.Police say the motorcyclist from Burton was traveling northbound on Holly Road to Belford when a 2002 Chevy pickup heading southbound made a left turn in front of him, causing the deadly crash.The motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene. Police say he was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.The driver of the pickup, a 66-year-old from Novi, was not injured. "It is important with summer right around the corner that we look twice for motorcycles," said MSP Lt. Mike Shaw in a statement. "We all need to share the road together and make sure we remain alert."
Howell teen dies in accidental drowning incident May 22
HOWELL — Alexa Claire Zielkowski, age 16, of Howell, died unexpectedly on Monday, May 22, due to an accidental drowning incident. According to Alexa’s obituary, she was a junior at Charyl Stockwell Preparatory Academy in Brighton, where she was enrolled in the International Baccalaureate Diploma Program. She was active in the school choir, participated in school musicals and was a member of the National Honor Society.

Ozone season is upon us, and with an air quality alert in place for several Michigan counties, state officials are calling residents to action Tuesday and Wednesday. Residents are encouraged to skip the gas station and postpone any barbeques planned for Tuesday or Wednesday until air quality conditions improve in St. Clair, Livingston, Oakland, Macomb, Washtenaw, Wayne and Monroe counties. Pollutants are expected to be in the "unhealthy for sensitive groups" range, according to the National Weather Service.

Linden honors veterans in annual Memorial Day parade
LINDEN, MI - The 2023 annual Linden VFW Price Crane Robinson Post 4642 Memorial Day Services and parade was held in Linden on Monday, May 29. The parade started off at 10 a.m. in front of the former VFW Post on Mill Street. It then continued to the bridge over the Shiawassee River on Bridge Street, where services were held to honor those who served at sea. The parade then proceeded to the Veterans Memorial section at Fairview Cemetery where the VFW Memorial Day ritual service was held.
