Cook Out bought Fayetteville and Hope Mills land years ago. Will it build restaurants there?

Cook Out is planning another Fayetteville location on Skibo Road , but that’s not the only local site the fast-food chain appears to be eyeing.

Cook Out-Fayetteville, Inc. purchased the former KFC at 3002 Raeford Road about three years ago for $750,000, according to Cumberland County property records. The 0.6-acre plot is between Walker Family Chiropractic and Ashley Furniture, just east of the Tallywood shopping center.

Around the same time, Cook Out-Hope Mills, Inc. purchased the former County Fish Fry at 3416 N. Main St. in Hope Mills, as well as a neighboring vacant lot, according to county property records. Together, the two parcels are a little over an acre.

Since the Fayetteville and Hope Mills properties were purchased, it does not appear that the company has submitted plans to either municipality to renovate the buildings or raze them to build a new restaurant.

Cook Out did not immediately return a request for comment Friday.

A Hope Mills Cook Out would be the town’s first, but the chain operates locations on Ramsey Street, Owen Drive and Cliffdale Road in Fayetteville and has proposed a Skibo Road store.

Known for its burgers, pulled pork sandwiches, corn dogs and hush puppies, typically served by the tray and washed down with sweet tea, Cheerwine or one of the more than 40 milkshake flavors, Cook Out got its start in 1989. It now operates 359 locations in the Southeast, 167 of which are in the Tar Heel State.
