4 Metro East police departments will supply additional officers to patrol MetroLink
Four Metro East towns have started supplying additional police officers to patrol around MetroLink stations. Under an agreement reached with Bi-State Development, which operates the region’s light-rail system, and the St. Clair County Transit District, the Belleville, Fairview Heights, Shiloh and Swansea police departments began allowing off-duty officers to monitor platforms and parking lots last month.

Advocacy groups are sounding the alarm on a spike in domestic violence cases. A new report from the Illinois Coalition Against Domestic Violence says domestic violence deaths in Illinois rose by 110% last year, with 94 incidents of domestic violence leading to 120 deaths in 2023.
