RIOCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — A Farmington man was sentenced to 25 years to life in prison Wednesday, after nearly killing someone during a 2021 police chase.

Jeffrey Dibble, 48, stole a pickup truck with a cattle trailer attached to it on September 15, 2021, leading police on a chase and hitting multiple cars before crashing into a bystander in Canandaigua. Prosecutors said the woman, a mother who was picking up a trumpet for her child, nearly died as a result.

“By stealing a truck and trailer, leading police on a high speed chase and nearly killing an innocent civilian, Jeffrey Dibble left countless members of the community and law enforcement with horrible memories and an all too real understanding that there are people like Jeffrey Dibble who can change your life forever in the blink of an eye,” Assistant Ontario County District Attorney Anthony DiMartino said in a statement issued Thursday.

Dibble was convicted of assault, criminal possession of stolen property, grand larceny, unlawful fleeing a police officer in a motor vehicle, and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle. Dibble was determined to be a persistent felony offender due to his seven previous felony convictions. He was sentenced to 25 years to life in prison for assault and unlawful fleeing, along with 17 years to life for grand larceny and stolen property and one year for unauthorized use of a motor vehicle. The sentences will be served concurrently.
