The majority of the time when you outhit the opposing team, you win the game.

Wednesday night, the Falcons put up six runs on 12 hits, while Kasson-Mantorville had nine hits, but 10 runs. The Komets runs came off timely hits, though, with players on base highlighted by a three-run home run to put the game away for good, giving the Falcons a bad beat and only their second loss in the last eight games.

    K-M won 10-6.

Rylee Sietsema was on the mound again and the Iron horse shutout the Komets for the first three innings as Faribault had a 2-0 lead going into the top of the fourth. The Falcons scored two runs in their first inning at bat.

Amanda Cullen singled and Sietsema doubled her home. Olivia Smith would then lace a single as well, scoring Sietsema and Cullen for the 2-1 lead. Sietsema started to tire a bit and the strike zone seemed to shrink as she gave up two walks to start the fourth. Kylie Meyer would slash a single scoring the Komets first run. Emily Olson would then knock in two runs on a double to give the Komets their first lead of the game.

They would get two more runs in the fifth to make it 5-2 but Faribault would come back with two runs of their own to keep it at a one-run game, 5-4 after fiv innings. Sietsema and Smith would both single. Amira Williams would single in Sietsema and Jamie Adamek would pick up an RBI on a fly ball single.

The Komets would extend the lead again with two unearned runs as the Falcons infielders would commit two errors. With two players on base, Emily Olson would double to make it 7-4. The Falcons would answer again to keep the game close with two more runs as the hot hitting continued for Faribault .

Amanda Cullen would get an RBI single and Reagan Dregenberg would get hit by a pitch. Sietsema would get her third big hit of the day lacing a line drive to center field, scoring Cullen and Dregenberg to make it 7-6.

There was a lot of tension and excitement as the Falcons were inching closer and closer to a comeback win. That would be short lived as the Komets would string together two singles and then Andria Fitch for the Komets hit a three-run homer to right center to make it a four run lead and a 10-6 score. Faribault would go down in order in the bottom of the seventh for a heartbreaking loss.

Sietsema, who was recently honored as Faribault High School’s female of the year went 3-3 with two runs scored and two RBI. Cullen, Smith and Williams were hot at the plate again as well as all three went 2-4 at the plate.

The 9-9 Falcons will play their last regular season of the game on the road Thursday night against Rochester Century. Game time is scheduled for 5 pm.
