    Durfee baseball, softball complete sweep of Brockton: Top performers (May 13-18)

    FALL RIVER — It was another solid effort for Matt Almeida on Wednesday.

    The Durfee right-hander pitched five strong innings as the Hilltoppers defeated league opponent Brockton, 5-3, at Joseph “Skip” Lewis field on the campus of B.M.C. Durfee High School.

    Almeida gave up three runs, two hits four walks while striking out six batters. He also had a pair of hits at the plate. Offensively, Jeyden Espinal went 2-for-4 with a double and two runs scored

    Matt Sherry (sacrifice fly) and Joe Silvia (double, walk) each finished with two RBIs each. Ben Sherry collected a hit and RBI.

    Case 15, Old Rochester 0

    The Cardinals inched closer to .500 after blanking league opponent Old Rochester on the road. Jack Orton picked up the win on the hill for Case (8-9), going six innings and scattering six hits, two walks while striking out two. Sam Deady (triple, run scored, two RBIs), Jackson McLane (two runs scored, two RBIs), Lucas Beaulieu (run scored, two RBIs, stolen base), Adam Gracie (two runs scored, two RBIs) and Aedan Borges (run scored, RBI) each collected a pair of hits for the Cardinals. Dylan Amaral finished with a double, two walks, run scored and two RBIs.

    Softball

    Durfee 17, Brockton 2

    The Hilltoppers won their third straight game, beating league opponent Brockton on the road. Rachael Silva pitched the complete game for Durfee (5-11), striking out five and only walking batters batters. Julia Rumsey led the team with three RBIs. Mia Jacob and Paisley Parisee each had two RBIs in the win. Niyah Boone led the Hilltoppers with three walks.

    Seekonk 8, Diman 6

    The Bengals lost a close one at home against league opponent Seekonk. Danielle Mello went 3-for-4 with a double, two runs scored and an RBI. Alyvia Moniz (double, RBI), Natalie Raposa (run scored), Ashley Carvalho (double, RBI), Kacie Lynch (double, run scored) and Courtney Boies (double) each had a hit. Carvalho fanned six and allowed four unearned runs.

    Boys Tennis

    Old Rochester 4, Somerset Berkley 2

    Sophomore Max Petit improves to 15-0 for the Raiders (11-4) with a 7-5, 7-6 (8-6) win in Old Rochester's road win. Petit's win snapped Bulldogs' Zach Mourao unbeaten streak.

    Boys Volleyball

    Durfee 3, Brockton 0

    The Hilltoppers swept league opponent Brockton. Chris Milfort finished with a game-high 23 kills and 13 digs. Danny Matuszek picked up 32 assists for Durfee (11-6) and Josh Sanon ended with 12 kills. Jack Sousa had four blocks and Braeden Bartley rounded out the scoring with 10 digs and four aces.

    Tuesday

    Softball

    Durfee 9, Diman 2

    The Hilltoppers broke open a close game late and defeated neighboring Diman for their second straight win. Rachael Silva went the distance for Durfee (4-11), allowing just two runs, four hits, four walks while striking out two batters. Julia Rumsey was the star of the game with two hits, including her first varsity home run — grand slam and drove in five runs. Paisley Parisee also had a pair of hits and threw out three base runners. Katerina Rumsey had a triple, RBI and scored a run for the Hilltoppers. Kacie Lynch led the Bengals (9-5) with a pair of hits, including a long solo home run. Ashley Carvalho fanned a game-high eight batters.

    Somerset Berkley 4, New Bedford 3

    The playoff-bound Raiders nipped non-league opponent New Bedford. Makenzie Jacob went 3-for-4 with a double and two RBIs for SBR (11-5). Sydney Bednarz (double, run scored), Emma Javier (run scored) and Victoria Dematteo each collected a pair of hits. Lillian Brisson (RBI, run scored) and Samantha Comeau (RBI, run scored) finished with a hit. Bednarz went the distance, scattering seven hits, two walks, two earned runs while striking out eight.

    Westport 15, South Shore Tech 3

    Makayla Grace pitched a complete game for the Wildcats in their win against South Shore. Grace struck out nine batters. Morgan Pacheco was 3-for-4 with two RBIs for Westport (6-8). Jayda Pequita finished with a pair of hits, including a home run and four RBIs. Molly Costa had a pair of hits, including a triple and three RBIs.

    Baseball

    Diman 11, Blue Hills 1

    Levi Russell pitched six strong innings to lift the Bengals to a home win against league opponent Blue Hills. Russell allowed five hits, two walks and fanned six batters. Sam Perry and Jacob Almeida each had two hits for Diman (11-2). Also collecting hits were Byron Bell , Kole Andrade , Bobby Leach , Charlie Vernon , Russell and Tanyon Reis . Diman collected 10 hits and scored in every inning except the third inning.

    Case 4, Bourne 1

    The Cardinals beat league opponent Bourne at home. Braden Sellers went six innings on the hill for Case (7-9), allowing four hits, one run, two walks and struck out seven. Reid Ulmschneider picked up the save after pitching the seventh inning. Lucas Saltmarsh had a pinch hit sacrifice RBI to plate the go ahead run. Jackson McLane (RBI) and Dylan Amaral (RBI) each had a hit.

    Apponequet 1, Somerset Berkley 0, 8 inn.

    The Raiders were blanked by league opponent Apponequet on the road in extra innings. Alex Crook had two hits in three at bats for SBR (12-4). William Dionne allowing a run on three hits, walked one while striking out seven.

    Boys Volleyball

    Durfee 3, King Philip 0

    Chris Milfort had another strong game, finishing with 22 kills in the HIlltoppers home win against King Philip. Danny Matuszek had 31 assists and Josh Sanon collected six kill shots. Jo Olubanwo finished with 6 kills and 12 service points. Lucas DeCampos had four blocks and Elias DaSilva played great in the win for Durfee (10-6).

    Monday

    Baseball

    Westport 1, Diman 0

    Connor James tossed a two-hitter and fanned eight batters as the Wildcats won their eighth consecutive game against Diman, 1-0, in a Mayflower League matchup at Westport High School. Westport (9-3) scored the lone run of the game on errors. Cole Andrade had a strong outing for the Bengals (10-2), allowing just two hits. Sam Perry had a pair of hits for Diman.

    Durfee 4, Barnstable 3

    The Hilltoppers hung on to beat Barnstable on the road. Jayden Souza pitched six strong innings for Durfee (13-2), two runs, four hits, four walks and fanned three batters. Keith Strong pitched the seventh for the save. Ben Sherry had three hits, scored two runs, RBI and stole four bases. Joe Silvia contributed a two-run single and Matt Almeida finished with an RBI. Jeyden Espinal , Matt Sherry and Owen Moniz each had hits.

    Somerset Berkley 11, Old Rochester 1

    Ethan Santos allowed four hits and a run in the Raiders' mercy-rule victory against Old Rochester at home. Santos walked five and fanned three batters. Landon Richardson , Alex Crook , Benjamin Jardin and Jayden Cruz each collected two hits for SBR (12-3). Richardson, Cruz and Mason Medeiros each drove in two runs. The Raiders turned one double play and didn't commit an error. Luke Thornton had the most chances in the field with seven.

    West Bridgewater 6, Case 5

    The Cardinals lost a close game with West Bridgewater. Jackson McLane was the tough luck loser for Case on the hill, allowing five hits, an earned run while striking out six in five inning innings. Lucas Beaulieu went 2-for-3 with a walk, three runs scored, RBI and stolen base. Reid Ulmschneider had a hit, scored a run and had a sacrifice fly. He also allowed a hit and fanned two batters in relief.

    Atlantis Charter 9, Rising Tide 5

    Brady Mak and Bradey Viverios had two hits to lead the Tritons past Rising Tide. Jared Brown , Anthony Furtado , Brady Cambra and Jasiah Handler each had hits for Atlantis Charter (5-5). Cambra, Viverios, Davion Adediran and Brown all pitched well.

    Softball

    Somerset Berkley 4, Old Rochester 2

    Victoria Dematteo spun a no hitter to lift the Raiders past league opponent Old Rochester on the road. Dematteo went the distance in the circle for SBR (10-5), allowing no hits, four walks while striking out nine. Julia Costa went 3-for-4 with two doubles, two RBIs and a run scored. Makenzie Jacob had three hits, an RBI and scored a run. Sydney Bednarz (walk, RBI), Emma Javier, Brooke Crombie and Sophia Thornton (run scored) each added a hit.

    Case 16, West Bridgewater 0

    Bre Fontes had three hits, including a double and four RBIs for the Cardinals in their win against West Bridgewater. Lila Alvarez , Madilyn Botelho , Lily Picard , Megan Smith and Nicole Rebelo each had two hits each. Cailyn Durand and Meg Pereira combined for the win, allowing just two hits.

    Atlantis Charter 7, Rising Tide 0

    Ava Cartin fanned 20 of 21 batters to help the Tritons in their shutout win against Rising Tide. Cartin also had a pair of triples for Atlantis Charter (8-2). Madyson Silva contributed a tripe and Adriana Bates played great behind the plate in the win.

    Diman 11, Westport 4

    The Bengals defeated Westport at home. Courtney Boies went 2-for-5 with a run, stolen base and an RBI. Nya Martinez had two hits, scored two runs and an RBI. Alexah Pedder Had two hits, run scored and three RBIs. Kacie Lynch (RBI), Danielle Mello (run scored), Natalie Raposa (run scored, a stolen base and two RBIs, Ashley Carvalho (RBI sacrifice fly) and Ariel Pimentel (run scored) each had a hit. Tess Silvia was 2-for-4 with two RBIs for the Wildcats (5-8). Mackenzy Ponte, Jayda Pequita , Makayla Grace , Bella Babb and Julia George each added a hit.

    Durfee 16, Dennis Yarmouth 5

    The Hilltoppers took care of business against non-league opponent Dennis Yarmouth. Rachel Silva pitched the complete game for Durfee (3-11-1), striking out two and walked three. Pasiley Parisee finished with three hits and and RBI. Katerina Rumsey and Silva each collected a pair of hits. Niyah Boone and Parisee each scored three runs. The Hilltoppers stole nine bases.

    Boys Lacrosse

    Westport 14, New Bedford 9

    Chris Amorin netted five goals to lift the Wildcats to a win over New Bedford. Jacob Cross finished with three goals and an assist for Westport (2-12). Nick Stanton had a pair of goals and an assist. Colleen Smith scored her first varsity goal.

    Boys Tennis

    Somerset Berkley 3, Dighton-Rehoboth 2

    The short-handed Raiders came away with a home win against Dighton-Rehoboth. Max Petit improves to 14-0 for SBR (11-3) with a 6-3, 6-1 win at second singles. Kelan Langlois and Calvin Perrotty was a winner at first doubles (6-2, 6-1) while Ryan Charest and Evan Furtado won easily at second doubles (6-4, 6-1).

    Durfee 3, Diman 2

    The Hiltoppers edged Diman on the road. Will Rumsey and Colin Fleet each won in straight sets for Durfee (9-2). Chrispin Sokol and Xavier Inacio won at first doubles, 6-2, 6-3. Michael Larivee won at third singles for the Bengals (4-6) while Kaidyn Fournier and Christian Rodrigues won at second doubles, 6-2, 6-3.

    Friday

    Diman 3, Case 2

    The Bengals won a close match against Case. Winners for Diman (4-5) were Rafael Infante , Michael Larivee and first doubles team of Kaidyn Fournier and Andrew Librera .

    Boys Outdoor Track

    Durfee

    The Hilltoppers track and field competed in the SEC championship and placed fourth. Aidan Lanciault won the triple jump (42-3) after coming off an injury. Other top finishers for Durfee were Jomo Kieta third (shot put; 41-2.5), Lawrence Harrison fourth (hurdles; 18.46, triple jump (40-8) and Hyde Farias fifth (110; 18.53). Curtis Mowatt placed fourth in the 200 dash (23.51), breaking Manny Gobern's sophomore record. Alvin Gaston took fifth in the triple jump (40-11).

    Dewin Herrera, Donovan Chem, Renardo Correia, Arian Ramic (800), Jaheim Calixte, Gaston, Lucas Motta, and Curtis Mowatt in the 4x4, Darwin Crespo, Olly Jean Pierre, Jonothan Reyes, and Brady Chabot (long jump), Jomo Kieta (discus), Kayden Platt (javelin)and Carter Morrel (shot put) each recorded personal records in their event.

    Boys Volleyball

    Durfee 3, Barnstable 1

    Chris Milfort set the new single match kills record for the Hilltoppers with 31 kill shots in their win against Barnstable. Milfort also added 21 digs. Danny Matuszek added 44 assists and 10 digs. Josh Sanon had 10 kills while Lucas DeCampos finished with five kills and four blocks. Elias DaSilva and Braeden Bartley were fantastic, defensively.
