PORTLAND, Ore. ( PORTLAND TRIBUNE ) — After nearly a year being closed, an East Multnomah County park with water access is reopening just in time for the summer heat.

Blue Lake Regional Park, 21224 N.E. Blue Lake Rd., in Fairview, will open Saturday, May 25, on Memorial Day Weekend.

“We heard from community members that access to the lake was important to them,” said Olena Turula, senior planner who oversaw renovations at the park. “Earlier this year, after engaging with neighboring property owners, Metro updated park rules so we could offer ways to access the lake that are safe and equitable for all.”

The closure lasted 9 months to update the park’s water and sewer system. Also new this year, park visitors will be able to launch paddleboards, canoes and other small, nonmotorized watercraft onto Blue Lake.

Visitors are reminded that while the lake is back open, it is not a swimming pool. There are no lifeguards, and people should take safety precautions like wearing life jackets.
