Lake falls to Heath in Division III state baseball final
AKRON — Lake's best baseball season in program history ended one win short of a state championship on Sunday, as the fourth-ranked Flyers lost 3-1 to second-ranked Heath in the Division III title game at Canal Park in Akron. The Bulldogs (28-2) took an early 3-0 lead, and crafty senior pitcher Wyatt Binckley made it hold up, navigating his way through the Lake lineup well enough to bring Heath its third state crown. Binckley (8-0) consistently kept Lake's batters off balance, striking out five and walking two while scattering five hits and working around two errors by his team’s defense. “We tried to work in two different types curveballs — a fast one and a slow one — to keep them off-balance,” Binckley said of the pitching scheme. “In the third or fourth inning, we worked a changeup also to really keep them off-balance.
