A new biography on early Vermont trailblazer Ira Allen is slated for release on Sept. 13. It is the first published book on Allen to come out in nearly a century. While Allen might be most well-known for his influence in landing the University of Vermont in Burlington, he also at one point in time, owned virtually all of Colchester. On paper, he was also Colchester’s first-ever town clerk.
Vermont Philharmonic presents two Summer Pops concerts
Vermont’s outdoor summer concert scene continues in August with the Vermont Philharmonic playing two Summer Pops concerts -- one each in Duxbury and North Hero. The first will be held beside the pond at Moose Meadow Lodge in Duxbury on Sunday, Aug. 11, at 4 p.m. The North Hero concert is scheduled for 4 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 31, at the Shore Acres Inn overlooking Lake Champlain.
