Two people were injured in a crash near Fairfield on Interstate 95 on Wednesday evening.

The crash halfway between mile marker 131 and mile marker 132 on the northbound side of I-95 was reported at around 9:38 p.m., according to Maine Department of Public Safety spokesperson Shannon Moss.

When first responders arrived on the scene, they found a 2013 Jeep Grand Cherokee on its roof in the median. The driver, 25-year-old Derrick Plowden of Rockland had to be extricated from the vehicle, and was transported to Maine Medical Center with serious injuries. He is in stable condition, according to officials.

The passenger, Jimal Gerard, 35, of Rockland was able to crawl out of the vehicle with minor injuries.

Officials believe speed and driver impairment were factors in the crash, but an investigation is ongoing.

Anyone with information about the crash can contact Trooper Randy Hall at 207-624-7076 Ext 9.
