Fairfield police arrested a man Saturday after he allegedly threw away a gun while being chased by officers.

Police responded at 9:43 p.m. to a report of a suspicious vehicle, called in by a resident in the area of Digerud Drive.

Officers contacted the car's occupants and discovered they allegedly possessed marijuana while under the age for legal possession.

As the driver was being removed from the vehicle, he broke free and fled on foot while carrying a satchel.

While fleeing, he allegedly threw the bag over a fence and then submitted to officers.

Officers found the satchel, which allegedly contained a loaded handgun. The 19-year-old driver was transported and booked into Solano County Jail on suspicion of possessing a weapon.
