WEST PITTSTON/EXETER – Ron Gitkos, West Pittston 1st Lt. Jeffrey F. DePrimo American Legion Post 542 commander, would like to remind everyone to display their American flag, especially for the month of May ending with Memorial Day.

Other activities for the Post 542, according to Gitkos, include a table set up at West Pittston Gerrity’s to sell Poppy’s during Armed Forces Weekend on Saturday, May 18, to benefit the Post.

On Saturday, May 25, at 10 a.m. the Post will be at the West Pittston Cemetery to put out new U.S. Flags at the graves.

Gitkos said all volunteers are welcomed to join to help with placing the flags.

The West Pittston-Exeter Memorial Day Parade steps off at 11:30 a.m. from Jenkins-Harding Cemetery, Wyoming Ave., West Pittston traveling south to Wyoming Area Catholic School, Exeter, where a program will be held at the conclusion of the parade featuring guest speaker Anthony Doblovasky, a former Marine who served in Iraq is currently in the Pennsylvania State Police K-9 Unit.

Gitkos said those featured in the parade are Cino Pace Band, military vehicles from Carmen Falcone and Kingston Armory, Marine Color Guard, Exeter American Legion, Exeter VFW, West Pittston and Exeter Borough officials, fire departments, Corvette Club of NEPA, and more.

“If anyone is interested in donating or sponsoring towards the parade, feel free,” Gitkos said. “The Post donates to numerous organizations throughout the year including scholarships for Wyoming Area graduates.”

Gitkos said if your organization would like to walk in the Memorial Day Parade or to donate, to reach out to him at 570-466-1232.
