Canton woman in Lewis County Jail faces possession of methamphetamine charge
CANTON, Mo. — A Canton woman with previous drug convictions in Adams and Hancock counties in Illinois faces more drug charges in Lewis County. A Lewis County Sheriff’s Office deputy conducted a traffic stop for speed in rural Lewis County on May 3. The driver was identified as Leslie A. Kirby, 41. After further investigation, it was determined Miss Kirby’s Illinois driver’s license had been revoked. She was arrested and transported to the Lewis County Jail to be placed on a 24-hour hold pending charges.
Elderly driver injured in Highway 61 accident south of La Grange
An accident occurred on Highway 61, four miles south of La Grange, at approximately 9:40 a.m. on May 7, 2024, involving a 2017 GMC 1500 and a 2023 Kenworth tractor-trailer. The GMC, driven by 77-year-old Craig A. Starkey of Quincy, Illinois, was reportedly westbound when it entered the path of the northbound Kenworth, driven by 26-year-old Dakota L. Downson of Auburn, Illinois. The collision resulted in total damage to both vehicles, towed from the scene by Robert’s Garage.

QUINCY — Hundreds of runners and walkers took to the streets of Quincy Saturday morning as part of the Quincy Medical Group’s 24th annual Bridge the Gap to Health Race. Participants can choose a 5K, 10K or half marathon routes that cross over the Bayview Bridge into Missouri before crossing back into Illinois for the finish.
