EVERETT, Pa. (WTAJ) — It was an intense night for customers and employees at Sheetz in Everett after a man allegedly attacked multiple people in an attempt to get their car keys after already carjacking a truck.
Calvin Jay Huffman, 37, of Uniontown, was charged in the morning hours of Sunday, April 14 with robbery, kidnapping, and assault, among lesser charges after a Sheetz employee had to hit a panic button just after midnight, the criminal complaint reads.
Through the state police investigation, and speaking with multiple witnesses and victims, it was alleged that Huffman crashed a vehicle into a guardrail in Woodbury Township. He then proceeded to hop into the passenger seat of someone who stopped to see if he was ok. The driver told police that Huffman said he had a gun and to keep driving. According to their account to state police, they tried to get Huffman out of the car multiple times before he finally got out at Sheetz in Everett.
From there, witnesses and victim accounts claimed that Huffman had attempted to get into multiple vehicles in the parking lot and went into the store looking for car keys. One victim told investigators that Huffman said, “I don’t want to do this to you, man, just give me the keys,” before punching the person in the head and neck.
According to charges filed, Huffman attacked multiple customers while trying to get someone’s keys. It was noted in the charges that Huffman allegedly told one victim that he wasn’t going to go back to jail.
Investigators said a Sheetz employee was able to trigger the panic button. At one point, the employee was able to pin Huffman down against the counter while Everett police arrived to take him into custody, the complaint reads.
Huffman was arraigned around 10 a.m. Sunday and placed in Bedford County Prison with bail set at $400,000.
