EVENSVILLE — Former Rhea County High School Principal Scotty Herrell has taken a position with the Roane County School System, according to a statement from Roane County, Tenn., officials on Thursday.

Roane County officials announced Thursday afternoon that Herrell was recently hired as the Rockwood High School principal.

“Rockwood High School has deep community roots and a rich history. I am happy to be a part of that tradition,” Herrell said in a released statement. “Over the last 15 years I have been able to serve in various administrative roles to prepare me for this opportunity. I will serve the students and support the faculty and staff to see that our students can achieve the highest levels of success both inside the classroom and in extracurricular activities. I am excited to meet the faculty, staff, students and stakeholders and build relationships of trust over the coming years.”

This is a developing story, and Rhea County school officials will name Herrell’s replacement at a later date.

Herrell was hired after former Rhea County High School Principal Jesse Messimer was hired as Rhea County Director of Schools in 2021. Messimer was hired into the position after the passing of longtime Rhea County Director of Schools Jerry Levengood.
