EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WEHT) — Special Olympics athletes went for gold at Evansville North High School.

About 200 athletes across five counties competed in the Area 10 games on Saturday.

Competitions included track, javelin throw, shot put and long jump.

These events are qualifiers for the summer games in Terre Haute next month.

“We have been involved for a lot of years, and we just love doing it for the athletes. That’s why we’re here. And they’re so appreciative and they put forth such great effort,” said Connie King, Area 10 director.

Founded in 1969, Special Olympics Indiana is one of more than 50 Special Olympics affiliates in North America.
