Evansville man charged after allegedly pointing gun at wife

HENDERSON, Ky. (WEHT) – An Evansville man was arrested after authorities say he pointed a handgun at his wife’s head while her children sat in a nearby car at his home.

According to an affidavit, a neighbor called authorities after Elijah Burris, 26, reportedly told him that he had an argument with his wife and he shot a gun. Authorities were able to make contact with Burris’ wife, who told them she had been driving Burris around with her three children on April 4.

The woman told authorities she and Burris are going through a divorce, and he asked her to come to his home because he had something for her. The affidavit says the woman left her three children in the car and went inside Burris’ home in the 6100 block of Rockford Drive. Inside the home, she said Burris asked if she would give him a second chance. Upon saying no, the woman told authorities that Burris pulled out a gun and pointed it at her head.

The woman said Burris prevented her from leaving the home by placing his arm on the door. She also said he fired the gun at the floor. She said she was able to leave after Burris placed the gun down on the porch and approached her vehicle to take groceries inside the home.

Burris was arrested and charged with the following:

• Confinement
• Intimidation
• Criminal recklessness (Three counts)
• Neglect of a dependent (Three counts)
• Pointing a firearm

He is being held on a $3,000 bond.
