HENDERSON, Ky. (WEHT) – Southern Indiana has been active in the transfer portal so far this off-season.

First they announced the signing of Braxton Jones, a combo guard from New Jersey that lit up the stage in Juco. Then, they went ahead and grabbed another tall guard in Damoni Harrison, who has the potential to score 17-18 a night.

And now, head coach Stan Gouard went out and got exactly what he needed in the size department in 6’8 forward Steven Olowoniyi.

A product of Virginia Military Institute, Olowoniyi moved to the states from Australia to pursue a career on the hardwood. The incoming sophomore scored 8 points per game in just over 18 minutes a night last season. But unlike both Jones and Harrison, his skillset wasn’t the only reason USI was the right fit.

“A bunch of schools reached out. It was crazy, but [SOUTHERN INDIANA] stayed the most consistent. You know, they always checked up on me. They called and texted me, almost every day. It just shows how genuine they were. You know I wanted to play for a coach and a coaching staff and just a team where everybody’s genuine, where there’s not really any fake love, you know, everybody’s real. So yeah, that really caught my eye and brought my attention here.”

Stephen says the family atmosphere was perfect for him considering his homesickness in the past. But now, his goal is to go out and compete for his teammates night in and night out.
