EVANS MILLS, N.Y. (WWTI) – Another north country auto racing track is pushing back its season-opener due to Mother Nature.

In a press release on Thursday, Evans Mills Raceway Park announced that it will delay its season debut until Saturday, May 11 due to an impending rainy forecast.

‘The King’ Richard Petty named Grand Marshal for Sunday’s Kansas Speedway race

Open practice will be held at the asphalt circuit from 4-7 p.m. today. Gates will open at 3 p.m. and any division is welcome to practice and pit passes are $25.

Track general manager Nick Czerow said it was a tough call to push back the season-opening card.

This is was a difficult decision to make and unfortunately needed to be made earlier than we typically do. We factored in the unchanged forecast of rain for both Saturday and our rain date option on Sunday. We also had to consider our guest touring series comprised of many teams and fans traveling from New England, some as far away as eight hours.

Next weekend’s action is slated to feature the touring Small Block Supers Championship Series, Kinney Drugs Sportsman Modifieds, Excess Storage Pro Late Models, Christman Fuel Service INEX Legends, Stewart’s Shops Sport Compacts, and the FENIX U-Pull U-Save Syracuse Thunderstocks.
