OLATHE, Kan. (KCTV) - A battery someone tossed in the trash caused an emergency in an Olathe neighborhood last week. City leaders said someone tossed a lithium battery into the trash. A trash truck unknowingly started hauling it to the landfill. On the way the lithium battery caught fire and started burning the rest of the trash in the truck.
Prison for man in sextortion scheme against KU student
DOUGLAS COUNTY—A man from Alabama is going to prison for his role in a humiliating sex crime. Last week, Devaris L. Howard, 21, of Gadsden, Ala., was sentenced to 41 months in the Kansas Department of Corrections for the sexual extortion of a then 19-year-old University of Kansas student in 2022, according to Douglas County District Attorney Suzanne Valdez.
