    CCBC Dance Company’s 50th Anniversary Dance Concert

    Community College of Baltimore County Performing Arts presents CCBC Dance Company’s 50th Anniversary Dance Concert from May 2 to May 4. Performances will be held in the Center for the Arts Theatre at CCBC-Catonsville, located at 800 South Rolling Road. In celebration of the 50th anniversary season, the spring concert will feature new works by guest artist Alvin Mayes, as well as CCBC alum and artist in residence Peter Pucci. The concert will also include the restaging of “A Slip of the Tongue” by Leslie Tinios, former artistic director of Dimensional Dance Media.

    The CCBC Dance Company was founded at Essex Community College in 1974 under the name Dimensional Dance Media by faculty member Carole Drake Cascio. In honor of her work and legacy, the college recently named the renovated dance studios in the Wellness Center at CCBC Essex the Carole Drake Cascio Dance Studios (East and West). CCBC is accredited by the National Association of Schools of Dance. Performance times include:

    11:10 a.m. — Thursday, May 27 p.m. — Friday and Saturday, May 3 and 4

    Tickets are $10 general admission; $5 for students, seniors, CCBC faculty and staff; and free for currently enrolled CCBC students with ID. Tickets can be purchased at the CCBC Box Office at 443-840-ARTS (2787), online at www.ccbctickets.com or at the door one hour prior to the performances.

    May Day Faerie Festival

    Baltimore County Recreation and Parks’ 2024 May Day Faerie Festival at Rocky Point Park is quickly approaching. In partnership with Spoutwood Farm Center, the festival will feature three stages of live music, dancing, bubbles, magicians, faeries, goblins, renowned craft vendors and more winged things than you can count.     BCPS Job Fair

    Baltimore County Public Schools is inviting prospective employees to its next job fair scheduled for Wednesday, May 8, from 5-7 p.m. at Overlea High School (5401 Kenwood Ave.). According to BCPS leaders, the school system “is committed to hiring a diverse workforce representative of the students and communities it serves.” At this job fair, BCPS is recruiting teachers, occupational therapists, physical therapists, speech language pathologists, nurses, school counselors, school psychologists, social workers, additional adult support positions, building service workers, bus drivers and attendants, food service workers, grounds workers and maintenance employees.     BCPS Film Expo

    Baltimore County Public Schools’ annual Film Expo will be held on May 16 from 7-9 p.m. at Senator Theatre at 5904 York Road in Baltimore. All middle school and high school students are welcome to enter. Films selected as finalists will be shown during the expo. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. The public is invited to this free annual Film Expo event. At the conclusion of the event, both the finalist filmmakers and the winning poster designers will be honored.

    Family Fest at 43

    Great Saturday fun awaits. The Back River Restoration Committee will join the Chesapeake Gateway Chamber of Commerce to host the

    “Family Fest @ 43,” an event featuring fresh family fun and entertainment. Enjoy a celebration of more than 50 exhibitors, a kids zone including Ms. Dee the Clown, Live Butterfly Exhibit, Martial Arts & Dance Shows. A beer and wine garden will be included along with plenty of convenient free parking. This free, family-friendly event will be held on May 18 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Event will be held rain or shine.     ”Farewell to Golden Ring Middle School”

    Join BCPS in officially bidding a farewell to Golden Ring Middle School on May 17 from 12:30-4:30 p.m. This event will be at the school’s campus located at 6700 Kenwood Ave. in Rosedale. In May 2023, the Board of Education of Baltimore County voted to close Golden Ring Middle School at the end of the 2023-2024 academic school year. During this farewell event, the Golden Ring Middle School community will celebrate the school’s history and impact, The event will include school tours, commemorative T-shirts, music, games, displays of student artwork and other projects, free summer reading books, a BCPS resource session, archived yearbooks and treasures and community partners including the Volunteer Fire Department, Rosedale branch of Baltimore County Public Library, and the Baltimore County Department of Recreation and Parks. Registration is required.

    Awards for Excellence in Education

    To culminate the 2023-24 school year, the Chesapeake Gateway Chamber of Commerce will honor outstanding local teachers and support professionals. BCPS Superintendent Dr. Myriam Rogers and CCBC President Dr. Sandra Kurtinitis will speak. Registration is required. The Awards for Excellence is scheduled for Wednesday, May 22, from 6-8 p.m. at CCBC-Essex’s Romadka College Center.

    Saturday, June 28

    13th Annual BRRC Golf Tournament

    The Back River Restoration Committee is preparing for its yearly golf tournament fundraiser, scheduled for June 28 at Rocky Point Golf Course in Essex. Registration will begin at 6:45 a.m. and shotgun will begin at 8 a.m. Individuals may register for $125 and four-person teams may register for $500. There will be prizes, an award ceremony, a luncheon and more activities as BRRC prepares for one of its most notable events of the year. Additional details are available at www.savebackriver.org.
