Escondido police are investigating after a man standing in a driveway was shot in the leg by someone in a vehicle that then drove off early Sunday, police said.

The shooting was reported around 1:40 a.m. at a home on South Citrus Avenue near Mountain View Drive on the east side of the city. Witnesses told police a white SUV pulled up to the home and someone in the vehicle fired several shots, striking a man standing in the driveway in the thigh, said Escondido police Lt. Joshua Langdon.

The victim — a man in his 40s — was treated for injuries not considered life threatening, he said.

Officers located two bullets at the scene. Witnesses said three or four shots were fired. No one got out of the vehicle.

The suspect was last seen as the SUV drove away from the home, heading north on Citrus. No suspect description was released.
