New Boston Huron hands Milan first Huron League softball loss

By Niles Kruger, The Monroe News,

NEW BOSTON – New Boston Huron’s softball team could have felt some pressure Wednesday.

The Chiefs already have two losses in the Huron League. A loss to Milan would have put them in a three-game hole in the Huron League.

Instead, Tedi Belisle’s team was strangely calm taking on the Big Reds, who were the only unbeaten team in league games.

“Actually, we felt really comfortable,” Belisle said. “We felt like we gave the game away the last time we played them.”

This time Huron took charge of the game.

Ava Ryan’s grand slam in the fourth inning gave Belisle’s team a 12-0 lead and they finished it off with a 12-2 mercy-rule win.

“It was a great win for us,” Belisle said.

Jenna Kuzara and Sasha Pender both went 2-for-3. One of Kuzara’s hits was a home run.

“We only had eight hits, but only struck out once,” Belisle said. “That was a game-changing thing. We talked about how we have to put the ball in play.”

Rylie Greggo picked up the win for Huron, which improved to 8-7-1 with their seventh victory in their last nine games.

“Although we’re not in the driver’s seat (in the league), I feel like we're getting where we need to be,” Belisle said.
