CCSO: Dollar General armed robbery suspect arrested

ENGLEWOOD — Charlotte County deputies arrested a man accused of robbing a Dollar General while armed.

The robbery was reported at 12:30 p.m. Thursday at the Dollar General at 11500 Oceanspray Blvd. in Englewood East.

“Deputies identified the suspect vehicle and the suspect attempted to flee in that vehicle,” a news release read.

According to authorities, the suspect attempted to ram his car into the deputies’ patrol vehicles when they pursued him.

The vehicle stopped after a short chase, according to CCSO, in the area of Piney Court and Treadway Road. The man surrendered and was taken into custody.

“We are thankful to report that there have been no reports of injury, either from the robbery or as a result of the chase,” the release read.

Neither the name of the suspect nor the address of the Dollar General has yet been released to the public, nor has the weapon alleged to have been used in the robbery.

The case is a “very active investigation,” with CCSO representatives saying they will share information with the public as it is available.
