First Look Inside: The Kitchen Counter

ENDICOTT, N.Y. (WIVT/WBGH) — We have a first look inside the new year-round home for the owners of a popular local food truck. NewsChannel 34 got a sneak peek inside The Kitchen Counter on West Main Street in Endicott which is scheduled to open tomorrow, May 1.

Partners Marc Yezzi and Aaron Laughlin took over the former Smarty’s location and are keeping the Perry’s ice cream but replacing the chicken barbecue with their signature sandwiches such as smash burgers and fried chicken sandwiches.

Over the past couple weeks, they’ve been busy hanging signage, developing their menus and doing some modest decorating. Yezzi says this is the first time they’ll be selling ice cream and they’re taking the same creative approach that they do with many of their seasonal specials.

“We like to keep it, try to keep it creative when we’re coming up with specials. I think we can expect to do the same thing with the ice cream. It’s been on our brain to try to push the boundaries of our sundae creations and try to have some fun with that,” Yezzi said.

The interior maintains the same retro ice cream parlor feel with stools and checkerboard tile. The owners bought new picnic tables and plan to install umbrellas for outdoor seating. The Kitchen Counter will be open from 11 to 9 seven days a week.
