LANSING — State Sen. Jim Runestad, chairman of the Michigan Republican Party, said on Friday, Nov. 6, that some GOP candidates had mishandled the debate over data centers and government transparency in the months leading up to the midterm election. Runestad said he had spoken to other Republican leaders, whom he didn't identify, and was "flabbergasted" by the way they approached data center developments. “I said, 'You guys are just not following where the people are,'" Runestad said. “Nobody wants these corporations to come in and run over the local community.” The veteran White Lake Township lawmaker made the comments on The Detroit News Political Insider podcast , three days after Republicans nationally suffered defeats up and down the ballot. In Michigan, Democrats were victorious in races for the U.S. Senate, governor, attorney general and secretary of state, while also winning their largest number of seats in the state Legislature in more than four decades. And I said, 'I think it’s going to be horrendous.

Gesher Human Services , one of the largest human service agencies in metro Detroit, is offering Homebuyer Education Classes twice a month through the end of January. While the four-hour classes typically cost $50 for a family, this season the fees are being waived, to remove one extra barrier to families getting into a home that they can own. Such classes are a requirement for the Michigan State Housing Development Authority (MSHDA), Down Payment Assistance Program which provides $7,500-10,000 loans to families with limited incomes hoping to purchase a home. Experts believe this is because there are fewer buyers than normal because some have been priced out of the market, and others are worried because of economic uncertainty. The in-person classes will be held at Gesher’s headquarters in Southfield (29699 Southfield Road ) from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.; afternoon classes are
