Scorching temperatures persist across Northern California today

High pressure continues to dominate Northern California, bringing a week of continued dry and unseasonably hot conditions. We anticipate widespread moderate HeatRisk throughout the Delta and foothills, with areas of major HeatRisk in the Sacramento and northern San Joaquin valleys. Record or near-record high temperatures are possible, exceeding normal levels by 10 to 20 degrees. Overnight cooling will be limited during this period due to weak offshore winds.

The National Weather Service offices in Sacramento, San Francisco and Hanford all issued advisories this morning, Oct. 1.
