What to know about the road work along SW Topeka Boulevard
Construction is taking place across many parts of the city, but the project that has recently stood out is the work along SW Topeka Boulevard. "The City recognizes that construction along this busy commercial corridor may create challenges for local businesses," according to the City of Topeka website. "Maintaining through traffic on Topeka Boulevard throughout the project is intended to help limit disruptions and keep the corridor accessible while this important infrastructure work is underway." The city encourages drivers to allow extra travel time, follow posted traffic controls and continue supporting businesses along the corridor during construction. Construction began Sept. 8 on the section from SW 29th Street to SW 37th. How long will traffic cones line the corridor, and when is the project expected to be finished? When will construction be complete? Construction is expected to be completed by the end of December 2027, barring such unforeseen circumstances as weather, site conditions or material availability. Bettis Asphalt & Construction is the contractor for the project. Why is construction taking place? The project includes rehabilitation of SW Topeka Boulevard between SW 29th and 37th streets, along with full reconstruction of the intersections at SW 29th and SW 37th. Traffic signals
