Meteorologist 'understands frustration' of tornado warning coverage during UGA game
When a tornado warning was issued for Butts and Jasper counties Saturday night, WSB-TV in Atlanta broke into its programming to provide information that could affect some of its viewers. It did so in the second quarter of Georgia football ’s top 10 matchup at Alabama that was airing on the ABC affiliate, a game the Bulldogs won 20-17. With Alabama down a field goal and driving with 40 seconds left in the first half, metrologist Ashley Kramlich appeared in studio in the right lower corner of the screen with a radar behind her and said she was sorry for breaking into the game, but was providing information for what she called a “life-threatening situation.” Viewers heard her updates on the track of the storm instead of the audio from Chris Fowler and Kirk Herbstreit from the game. Many were not happy. The action from the game was still shown prominently in a split screen while Kramlich gave updates for those living in the counties southeast of Atlanta. We don't make these decisions lightly, and we won't apologize for putting lives first. @wsbtv pic.twitter.com/CMH3A2tDhf — Ashley Kramlich (@AshleyKramlich) October 12, 2026 The tornado warning coverage lasted more than 16 minutes
