Say yes to the dress at With Love Bridal Boutique, new downtown Elmira business

Stephanie Becraft grew up in a large family, one that has featured plenty of weddings over the years.

“Wedding season” has always been a special time for Becraft, who helped plan a few of those special days.

“I just love the whole thing. I think it’s a great experience and it’s so much fun,” said Becraft. “It’s full of memories.”

Soon, Becraft will be part of making those memories for Southern Tier residents as she prepares to open With Love Bridal Boutique in downtown Elmira.

The shop at 126 Lake St. will soon start accepting appointments from brides searching for the perfect wedding dress.

Brides can book a two-hour appointment to sample dresses, consult with a stylist, take measurements and browse accessories. Becraft currently has options from three different designers, with the average dress running around $2,000.

After a bride says "yes" to the dress, it typically takes a few months to arrive at the shop.

“I’m hoping to have mother of the bride dresses as well. We’ll see what people are looking for,” said Becraft. “Right now everyone kind of gets bridesmaid dresses online so I don’t want to have any of those, but once I’m open and have people coming in and asking if I’m going to carry this or that, I’m definitely open to considering other things.”

Guests are welcome to join in the experience at With Love Bridal Boutique, which features a kitchenette with complimentary food and a bar area for drinks. Guests can also bring their own food and drink, Becraft said.

“I wanted a very romantic, vintage, warm, rich feel,” said Becraft. “I’ve curated all my things. They’re second-hand but very good quality marble top vanities, old settees and chairs, big old mirrors. I wanted that vintage feel and experience so when you come in it feels like home or an old Victorian house. I’m really excited for everybody to see it.”

The shop sits on the Gerard Block renovated by Arbor Housing in recent years. The long-vacant properties were transformed into housing units and ground-floor retail space.

Bringing business activity to a revitalized part of the city was important to Becraft, an Elmira native.

“I really wanted to do it in Elmira. I grew up here and I’m raising my family here,” said Becraft. “I wanted to be part of a revitalized Elmira. I love the community. I’m really happy to be downtown. That was my goal.”

Becraft credited her husband, father-in-law and uncle for undertaking some renovation work that turned the space into the perfect home for With Love Bridal Boutique.

“I’m super nervous, but more excited than anything,” Becraft said. “I’ve had a good support system of family and friends. My husband has been really great about everything, very supportive.

"There’s a lot to it and I’m going to learn more as I go. Every day is going to be a learning experience, but I’m excited and ready for it.”
