ELLENSBURG, Wash. - A senior at Central Washington University will be exhibiting their provocative art in Gallery 231 starting Monday April 22 and going until April 26.
The exhibit evokes distressing narratives, going beyond traditional boundaries it is rooted in the contrast of rural America's childhood innocence and the reality of womanhood.
The artist, Van Parsons, draws from personal experience of sexual exploitation and systemic neglect. Parsons explains, "Within my work, I aim to personify the profound impact of girlhood and the journey into womanhood across all facets of existence. Each piece serves as a nuanced exploration of fleeting innocence tainted by socioeconomic hardship and societal pressures, inviting viewers to confront these symbols emblematic of enduring societal destitution and the premature demand of adult sexuality."
Parsons works with various mediums telling stories through sculptures and paintings. This is an exhibit that leaves the audience without answers, but maybe inspiring more questions.
Parsons said, “Drawing from personal experiences and secondhand accounts, my art delves into the distortions of modern life caused by the inevitable demand of society.”
