NORTH EAST — Members of New Beginnings Christian Fellowship in Elkton will hold its annual Breaking Bread, the community outreach held in memory of the founder, Phil Meekins.

Amy Hall, wife of The Rev. Sam Hall, pastor of the church in Northside Plaza on North Bridge Street, said Breaking Bread will be held once again in North East Community Park from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. and everything is free.

“We have live music and free food from various local businesses such as Guapos Tacos and I’m Just Winging It,” Hall said. Generous donations have also arrived from Herr’s and Pepsi. There will be pulled pork, tacos, hot dogs, pit beef, cole slaw and a dessert table courtesy of the ladies of the church. “We’ll have something for everyone.”

Breaking Bread also is about feeding widespread needs in Cecil County. partnering with Armstrong in Rising Sun and Amazing Grace Ministries there will be free non perishable food for anyone in need, no questions asked. Also to be given away will be clothing.

It’s not just about eating. Breaking Bread will have entertainment including the Pleasant View Baptist Church Puppets and Inspire Twirl League. Courtney’s Books will giveaway books and other free resources will include WIC, Voices and Hope and The American Cancer Society to name few, Hall said.

Anytime the church has come across a need to help others, or for Breaking Bread it has always come through, Hall said.

“Breaking Bread has been a testimony that everything we need has been provided,” she said. However the overarching goal of Breaking Bread is a simple message, Hall said.

“We love you. We want to lead you to Jesus but we also want to help you through this crazy thing called life,” she said.
