    Four Cecil County athletes win division crowns at Chesapeake Division Championships

    Elkton and Rising Sun traveled to Edgewood High School on Thursday for the Chesapeake Division Championships. Two Tigers and two Golden Elks concluded the meet as division champions.

    Elkton’s Sytieia Brown won both girls’ throwing events. Brown finished the day with a season-best mark of 119’ 4” in the discus. She added a first place finish in shot put with a throw of 36 feet. Sun’s Caroline Mercer finished second in the girls’ discus with a throw of 117’ 11”.

    Rising Sun’s John Amoretti won the boys’ shot put with a season-best throw of 39’ 8”. Sun’s Garrett Rees finished second in the boys’ shot with a throw of 39’ 7”. Rising Sun’s Michael Brusio won the boys’ discus with a mark of 127’ 8”, while Rees took home another second place finish.

    In the jumps, Elkton’s Jared Adams finished with a first place height of 5’ 10” in the boys’ high jump. Rising Sun’s Madi Cleary took home second place in the girls’ long jump with a mark of 15’ 4”. Elkton’s Mekhi Lockhart finished with a third place finish in the boys’ triple jump (41’ 9”) and added a fourth place leap in long jump (19’ 7”). Sun’s Katie Callaghan finished fifth in the girls’ triple jump with a mark of 33’ 6 1/4”. Rising Sun’s Dylan Zahn finished fifth overall in the pole vault with a height of 10 feet.

    On the track, Rising Sun’s Niklas Haraldsson concluded the day as the runner-up in the 3200-meter run with a time of 10:40.10. Sun’s Mikayla Horst placed third in the 1600-meter run in a time of 5:45.05. Elkton’s boys’ 4x400-meter relay of Solomon Foye, Mekhi Lockhart, Desz’Aire Stewart and Jared Adams finished third overall in a time of 3:41.20. Elkton’s Myracle Miles placed fourth overall in the 100-meter dash (13.84), while Callaghan placed fourth in the 400-meter dash (1:03.35). Rising Sun’s girls’ 4x100-meter relay of Danna Contreras, Josie Wagner, Meredith Hovatter and Olivia Griffith finished fourth overall.
