The senior play has been a long standing tradition at Elkin High School. Each year, the seniors come together to present an amazing production. This year will be no different. The public is invited to Dixon Auditorium this weekend as the class of 2024 presents a musical play by Neil Gooding, “Back to the 80s.”

Remember when blue eye shadow was cool? Atari was cutting edge technology? From the era that brought the world the Rubik’s Cube and the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles comes this totally awesome musical. Everyone is invited to join the class of 1985 as they experience the fun and heartbreak of growing up in this totally awesome decade.

Over 40 students are involved in the production, either as cast members, backstage crew or as musicians. Auditions started in late January and the students have been working hard, showing dedication, even with the many sporting events and practices that have conflicted with play practices. The students absolutely love the 80’s music that is a part of this production and they are very excited to finally be able to share their performances with the community. Senior Lukas McClamrock remarked, “I have loved seeing all my peers stepping outside of their comfort zones and being able to present my vocal and performance talents that I have been working on for several years at Elkin High School.”

The play, directed by Sarah Estrada and Tonya Smith, will be presented at Dixon Auditorium on Saturday, May 4 at 7 p.m. and again on Sunday, May 5 at 2:30 p.m. Admission is $12 and kids 5 and under are free.
