YES competition slated for Thursday in Elkin

Area youth will be showing off their business acumen tomorrow, when they will be competing against other like-minded students, hoping to be crowned as one of the top young entrepreneurs in the the local school systems.

The YES Surry High School Entrepreneurial competition will be taking place Thursday at the Surry Community College Elkin Center, Room 107, at 1461 M. Bridge St., in Elkin. YES stand for Young Entrepreneurs of Surry.

According to a statement from the sponsoring organization, “The YES Surry competition features local high school students venturing into entrepreneurship, showcasing their small businesses.”

Thursday’s event will feature the winners from each of the county’s seven high schools, competing for the countywide title.

“YES Surry challenges, encourages, and instills the entrepreneurial spirit in students of Surry County by providing the knowledge, resources, and support necessary for their success,” organizers said. “YES Surry offers students the tools to take their big ideas and run with them.”

The competition is 1 to 4:30 p.m. Thursday, with an awards ceremony set to begin at 5 p.m.
