Showers and gusty winds ahead in the forecast for the Inland Northwest
Overnight snow turned into morning rain in the Inland Northwest. Plenty of moisture continues to flood into the region keeping weather active. A cold front is pushing through overnight Wednesday into Thursday morning. This front is picking up winds once again with widespread gusts over 40 mph and isolated gusts near 60 mph. Those strongest gusts are expected on the Waterville Plateau and on the Camas Prairie. The Camas Prairie is under a High Wind Warning with possible power outages, down trees, and difficult travel.
USFS Forest Health Improvement Project Near Bovill Preliminarly Passes Environmental Review
A proposed project to improve forest health near Bovill has preliminarily passed an environmental review from National Forest officials. Nez Perce-Clearwater National Forest officials’ draft opinion found that the Longleaf Project has no significant environmental impact. The project in the local Palouse Ranger District has gone through a draft environmental assessment. That draft finding is now open for public comment.

As a strong cold front pushed through the region on Wednesday, winds picked up with a gust of 51 mph reported at the Spokane Airport. The cooler air behind the front is mixing in dropping temperatures for the next couple of days. Monday brought graupel and snow to parts of the region. Precipitation in general will quiet down throughout the region Monday night through Tuesday.
