Genesee Moving Forward With Plans For New Wastewater Treatment Plant
GENESEE - Plans are moving ahead for a new wastewater treatment system in Genesee that will reduce the city’s discharge into Cow Creek. The Idaho Department of Environmental Quality is seeking public comments about the draft permit for the project. The City of Genesee plans to build a new sewer plant. The new system will treat the water with lagoons and will produce more recycled water. The increase in reuse water from the new sewer plant means that Genesee will be discharging less treated water into the creek. The city has had difficulties complying with ammonia and temperature regulations for their discharge into the creek. Genesee’s current sewer system also has issues with seepage from its lagoons. Officials hope to have Genesee’s new wastewater treatment plant running next year. The draft permit would authorize water reuse operations for seven years.
