Exira-EHK Aiming for Low Scores to Close Out the Regular Season Before Sectionals

(Elk Horn, IA) – The scores continue to go down for the Exira-EHK Spartans golf team as they continue to work hard and have fun. At the 5×80 golf course last Thursday, the Spartans featured almost every varsity golfer in the mid to low 50s and shot 217 as a team. That was an impressive effort, especially given the wind on the course and the length of the course to add to it all. Head Coach Tom Petersen was proud of his boys for performing as well as they did with their inexperience on the course and what they were able to achieve.

With those crazy winds last week, they aren’t going anywhere as the weather continues to make its mark on multiple teams and their golf games. The main concern is just to be able to get these athletes out on the course to work on the short game and work on that consistency.

Exira-EHK has been able to improve in multiple aspects, but their biggest achilles heel has been consistency in ball-striking. Many golfers who start out struggle with having consistent shots and control over those shots to top it all off. Coach Petersen is hoping that they are able to achieve that feat this week to help lead into sectionals that start the following week for the Spartans.

The biggest goal for the boys tomorrow is for the boys to try to reach the 40s on both the front and back nine. They’ll be at the Lake Panorama National Golf Course for an 18-hole matchup which is a tough course and a new experience for these Spartan golfers. But even with that goal, the other goal is just for the boys to go out and take in the experience while having fun.

Tomorrow, the Spartans will go up against multiple local teams including CAM, Boyer Valley, and others in a tough matchup that starts at 9:00 a.m., weather permitting.
