Northeastern High School’s Jada Simpson tallied a hat trick in the Eagles’ 4-0 home soccer win over the Albemarle School Colts 4-0 Friday night.

Simpson scored one goal just five minutes into the match, and then followed up with her second goal six minutes later.

Powered by Simpson’s goals, Northeastern led Albemarle School 2-0 at halftime.

The two teams battled defensively throughout most of the second half until Simpson notched her third goal with 18 minutes remaining in the game.

Dymond Carter closed out the scoring for the Eagles, scoring a goal with two minutes left in the match.

The win moved the Eagles to 4-9 overall and 2-4 in Northeastern Coastal Conference play.

The Colts are now 1-7-1 overall and 1-2 in conference play.

Albemarle School was scheduled to play at Oakwood Monday afternoon while Northeastern traveled to First Flight on Monday.

Softball

Currituck County 10, Holmes 0After dropping a game to John A. Holmes High School in Edenton earlier in the week, the Currituck County High School softball team defeated the Aces 10-0 in Friday evening’s rematch in Barco.

The Knights scored six runs in the first four innings and then exploded for four more in the fifth inning to enforce the run rule and win the game. Kaydence Hassell and Taylor Clark led the charge for the Knights with two hits each. One of Hassell’s hits was a run-scoring triple. The duo also combined for four runs batted in.

Other Knights who contributed to the shutout win included Eboni Bailey who had double and a run batted in, and Savannah Banks who also doubled. Amelia Cervantes finished the game off in style with an inside-the-park home run that scored two.

The win moves the Knights back to .500 at 6-6 and 4-3 in Northeastern Coastal Conference play.

The loss drops the Aces back to 10-7 and 6-2 in NCC play.

Baseball

Currituck County 6, Holmes 1The Currituck County High School baseball team remained a perfect 8-0 in NCC play by defeating Holmes 6-1 on Friday night, completing a two-game sweep of the Aces during the week.

With the Knights up 1-0 in the first inning, Michael Sawyer roped a double to score Will Brumsey and Cayden Barth, increasing Currituck’s lead to 3-0.

Things would stay that way until the bottom of the sixth inning when the Knights plated three runs to push their lead to 6-0. Brumsey led off the inning with a single, and was followed by Riley Anderson who singled. The next Knight batter was hit by a pitch, loading the bases with no outs.

Sawyer then hit a sacrifice fly to score Brumsey, and he was followed by a Dom Espinoza single that scored Anderson. A groundout by Haiden Mcmurray plated the sixth run.

Holmes tried to mount a rally in the final inning, scoring one run on a Maddox Bass single. But that would be the only run the Aces would score as a strikeout and double play ended the game.
