Two incidents occurred in Portales, New Mexico this week. In the first incident, a former Ashley furniture employee was sentenced to one year in prison for stealing over $100,000 worth of furniture from the store where he worked. Some of the stolen furniture was found in the home and storage unit he shared with another individual. In the second incident, a former director of a residential child care facility in Portales is facing fraud charges, including forgery and disposing of stolen property. The charges span from February 2018 to November 2021.

Former Portales children's home director charged with fraud
The former New Mexico Baptist Children’s Home Director faces felony fraud charges after he was accused of embezzling from the charity to pay for personal expenses. David Randall Rankin, 71, faces 28 counts of fraud, one count of forgery and one count of disposing of stolen property, according to a news release from the Ninth Judicial District Attorney's Office.
