Rock Island City Council votes in favor of repairs to Sunset Marina
ROCK ISLAND, Ill. — Rock Island's Sunset Marina will be receiving some improvements following a city council vote. On Monday, May 13, the Rock Island City Council voted to approve funding for repairs to the marina, which sustained severe damage in 2019's flooding. The improvements include fully replacing the 400 docks, electrical upgrades to the 100, 300 and 500 docks and dredging all of the deteriorated docks. Dredging is expected to begin in July 2024, with the remaining improvements projected to be completed by July 2025.

Severe storms forecasted to move through Quad Cities region Tuesday
MOLINE, Ill. — Severe storms are forecasted to come through the greater Quad Cities region Monday night and most of Tuesday. According to the National Weather Service (NWS), two to three rounds of thunderstorms will come through the region from mid-morning to late evening, with the strongest storms coming sometime between 3-9 p.m. Tuesday. The NWS projects the greatest potential dangers to be damaging winds up to 80 mph, large hail and strong tornadoes.
QC officers hit the streets for Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics
Police officers in the area hit the streets, but they weren’t chasing any criminals. They came out for the Law Enforcement Torch Run. The event leads up to the Special Olympics Iowa Summer Games. The run started outside of the Bettendorf Police Department. Officers carried the flame of hope for more than six miles and ended at Rookies Sports Bar in Davenport.
Tim McCloud approved as Rock Island Chief of Police
The Rock island City Council approved Tim McCloud to be the city’s new police chief. McCloud had been the interim chief since Rock Island Police Department when chief Richard Landi retired. McCloud took the oath of office at the Rock island City Council meeting May 20. McCloud started his law enforcement career with the Rock Island Police Department 30 years ago. He served as detective from 2002-2006, sergeant from 2006-2009 and lieutenant from 2009-2021, when he was appointed as deputy chief of police.
