The area round of the UIL softball playoffs starts Thursday and there are 10 El Paso teams remaining. Last season, Hanks reached the Region I-5A semifinals and El Paso teams are hopeful of going at least that far this season.
Class 6A
- Montwood and Eastwood are still alive out of District 1-6A. The Rams were the district champs and Eastwood was second. Both teams are strong hitting clubs and are very good on defense.
Class 5A
- Chapin has history of deep runs in the playoffs in recent years including a Region I-5A final appearance.
- Del Valle and Ysleta have potential to advance to the next round with good pitching and timely hitting.
- Canutillo served notice with a sweep of Parkland in bi-district.
Class 4A
- Riverside has come a long way with second-year coach Jade Rodriguez.
- San Elizario has made plenty of progress in the past two years.
- Bowie and Clint earned nice bi-district wins last week and hope to build for the future.
