Fort Collins URA wants to buy another motel with nuisance issues, blight
The Fort Collins Urban Renewal Authority wants to buy a third property along North College Avenue that has been deemed a blight or a nuisance, and it's willing to use eminent domain to do it. The URA, whose mission is to transform blighted areas, is already planning to purchase the old Albertsons building , 1636 N. College Ave., and the Budget Host motel, 1513 N. College Ave. This time, it's the El Palomino Motel, 1220 N. College Ave., a 36-room motel. On May 22, the board voted 9-0 to negotiate for the purchase of the site and to use eminent domain to acquire it if necessary. The site is contributing to blight conditions in the area, URA staff says. There were 404 calls for service to Fort Collins Police Services and 60 to Poudre Fire Authority in the past year, staff said in a report. The property also has unresolved public nuisance issues with the city program, and the physical property is being neglected. URA staff said they reached out to the property owner last fall about buying the property, and there's still a big gap between the money being offered by the city — which they say is above

Thompson School Board Weighs Bond Issue
The Thompson School Board directed district staff to work on a bond issue that would raise $100 million for the district to be placed on the November ballot, a move that would not raise taxes on residents, but would rather extend existing tax rates past their point of expiration. According to the Loveland Reporter Herald, the decision came after district staff presented results of public polling indicating strong support among the community for such a move, while also showing less support for various options that would increase the tax rate beyond its current level.

City of Cheyenne begins discussions of new $74.4M annual budget
CHEYENNE — Anticipated general fund revenues in the next city budget are up from the current fiscal year, but Cheyenne Mayor Patrick Collins said it’s important to proceed with a fiscally conservative budget after the state Legislature passed more laws lowering property taxes for most Wyoming homeowners.
